The Pony Express station was not worth stopping at. We didn't have a picnic lunch at Antelope mountain, nor lunch in Eureka. What a great day we did have though.
Stopped at Sand Mountain and chatted with John who was busy preparing his quad bikes for a run up the 'mountain'. It's actually 600 feet of moving sand, very steep, but with a 45 degree slope down the back. Next week there is going to be a race meeting where people from all over the world will attend. John said he himself was Polish. And the chap in front was German. When I said he didn't sound Polish, he replied that he had moved to the USA when he was 3. Hmmm...
"Every year people drink too much alcohol then attack the mountain at 90 mph. They misjudge the top and fly straight over, killing themselves. Even on ground level people get seriously hurt or killed going too fast and getting hurled from their vehicles“. Looks like Carol wasn't exaggerating.
From there we went on to a bar recommended by John for coffee. Mark and Jayne had a lucky escape when turning their bike. We had missed the turning for the bar and were attempting a U turn when Jeremy called on the radio to stop because there was a car coming. Anyone who has ridden a fully loaded Electraglide knows that any sudden change of course at low speeds is likely to result in a bike on the floor. This is just what happened and it was fortunate that the car had time to stop. No harm done but a sobering reminder that care and attention is needed on these things. I for one, hate turning the bloody thing at low speed.
What a great bar though. Population has recently fallen in the Middleton from 18 to 17. That's what happens when the daughter runs away to marry The Prince of Wales.... actually I'm lying, it's Middlegate.
Over to Rachael..
My backside feels better thank you Harley D, good cushion but check out your pricing!!! I was dreading today but doing the lonely road with good chums is not lonely at all. I was starting to worry that my head was shrinking though until half way through the day we discovered I had his helmet on and vice versa. The minor bike Fall from j + m made me feel somewhat inadequate today. If that had been me I think I would still be weeping in the road. I am getting lessons in being a stalwart for sure!!
I am thinking that Nevada has for sure got some substance misuse issues there are posters everywhere saying " life after meth" what do you think mc chums . . . . Quite catchy?!#? :-) xx
I can't believe how much better today has been clearly I am getting used to it and today we finished having done 666 miles since San Francisco. Good number!!! I even got some of my book read until the wind started preventing me from turning pages!
That sand mountain thing was a bit odd, basically just a load of sand has blown into a corner and it's now a tourist attraction?? Really!
